Questions
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice asks for payment and shows when it is due. A receipt confirms that payment has been made and shows the date and how the customer paid. Send the invoice first, then a receipt once the money arrives.
Do I need to give my customer a receipt?
It depends on where you are and what you sell, but a receipt is good practice for every payment, especially cash. It gives the customer proof of payment and gives you a record for your books and taxes.
Can I make a cash receipt?
Yes. Enter Cash in the Paid with box. The receipt shows the amount, the date and that it was paid in cash, so both of you have a record.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every template, every download format and every feature in the builder is free. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you make.
Where is my information saved?
Only in your own browser on this device. We never upload your business details, customers or prices. Download a copy of anything you need to keep.
Can I open it in Word or Google Docs?
Yes. Download the Word file and open it in Microsoft Word, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. The Excel file keeps live formulas for the totals.
