What's in the Excel file
- Each line has a type (labor or material), quantity, unit and rate.
- Labor and materials subtotal separately with formulas, so customers see where the money goes.
- Tax and the estimate total are formulas. Change the tax rate cell and everything updates.
- Estimate number, date and a valid-until date at the top.
- Space for the job site address, notes and your terms underneath.

Questions about the Excel estimate template
Is it really free?
Yes. The download is free, with no sign-up, no email and no watermark. The online builder is free too.
Why split labor and materials?
Customers trust a price they can see broken down, and in many states materials and labor are taxed differently. The split also makes change orders easier to price.
How long should an estimate be valid?
30 days is common. Use a shorter window, such as 14 days, when material prices move quickly.
Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets. The formulas keep working.
What's the difference between an estimate and a quote?
An estimate is your best guess at the price and can change if the job changes. A quote is a fixed price the customer can accept. Both work in this template; the online builder also makes quotes.
