How to use it in Microsoft Word

Download and open it
Open the .docx in Word. Click Enable Editing if Word opens it in Protected View.

Add your logo and details
Click at the top to type your business name and contact details. Insert > Pictures adds your logo.

Fill in the customer and dates
Add who you are billing, an invoice number and the invoice and due dates.

List the work and work out the totals
Type each item with its quantity, rate and amount, then the subtotal, tax and total. Word does not do the maths, so check the numbers (or use the online builder, which calculates them).

Save as PDF and send
Choose File > Save As > PDF and email the PDF, so your customer can't change it.

Is it really free?
Yes. The download is free, with no sign-up, no email and no watermark. The online builder is free too.
Does Word calculate the totals?
No. Word tables don't recalculate like a spreadsheet. If you want totals worked out for you, use the Excel template or fill the invoice in online and download the Word file already filled in.
Will it open in Google Docs?
Yes. Upload the .docx to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. There is also a ready-made Google Docs version you can copy in one click.
Can I add my logo?
Yes. In Word use Insert > Pictures and place the logo at the top. In the online builder you can upload a logo and it appears on the Word and PDF files.
Should I send the Word file or a PDF?
Send a PDF. It looks the same on every device and the customer can't edit it. Keep the Word file to copy for your next invoice.
