How to write a lawn care invoice

  1. 1

    Add the property

Show the address and lot size so customers with several properties know which one it is.

  2. 2

    Set the schedule

Weekly, every two weeks or one-off. Route customers see the frequency on every invoice.

  3. 3

    Bill visits as a quantity

For a monthly invoice, put the number of mows as the quantity at your per-visit price.

  4. 4

    List seasonal extras

Leaf cleanup, aeration, fertilizing and hedge trimming each get their own line.

  5. 5

    Make paying easy

Add the payment methods you take, and say if you bill a card on file monthly.

Pricing tips for lawn care businesses

Price per visit by lot size

A per-visit price by lot size is simple to quote and easy for customers to compare.

Bill monthly

One monthly invoice per customer cuts admin and gets you paid on a regular schedule.

Sell the extras

Aeration, overseeding and leaf cleanup are good margin. Mention them on the invoice before the season.

Questions lawn care businesses ask

Should I invoice lawn care weekly or monthly?

Monthly invoicing is most common for route customers: one invoice with the number of visits as the quantity. One-off cleanups can be invoiced on the day.

Do I charge sales tax on lawn care?

It depends on your state. Some tax lawn and landscaping services and some don't. Set your rate in the template, or leave it at zero if you are not required to charge it.

Can I use this for snow removal in winter?

Yes. Change the services to plowing or shoveling and set the frequency to per snowfall.

Is this template really free?

Yes. Fill it in online and download PDF, Word or Excel as often as you like. There is no sign-up, no watermark and nothing to install. Your details stay in your own browser.
