What should a lawn care estimate include?

A lawn care quote (or lawn care estimate) is the price you give a homeowner before starting regular service, usually a price per mowing visit based on lot size, the visit frequency, and any seasonal services such as cleanups, fertilizing or aeration. A lawn care estimate should include your business name, contact details and insurance; property address, lot size and any access notes; price per mowing visit and the frequency; number of visits in the season and the season total; optional seasonal services, each priced separately; and how you bill, rain-day policy and how long the quote is valid. A per-visit price is easy to compare; the season total shows the value of a full contract. Send it before the job starts, keep a copy, and convert it into an invoice once the customer approves and the work is done.

Also called: lawn care estimate, lawn mowing quote, lawn mowing estimate, lawn service quote, yard maintenance quote. It is the same document, and this template works for all of them.

How to write a lawn care quote

  1. 1

    Walk the property

Measure or estimate the lot size, note obstacles, slopes, gates and beds, and how long a mow will take.

  2. 2

    Set a per-visit price

Price each mow by lot size and time on site. Customers compare lawn quotes per visit, so make it the first line.

  3. 3

    Choose the frequency

Weekly, every two weeks or on request, and the season it runs. Multiply visits by the per-visit price for a season total.

  4. 4

    Add seasonal services

Spring and fall cleanups, fertilizing, aeration and overseeding each get their own line, so customers can pick.

  5. 5

    Explain billing and send it

Say whether you bill per visit or monthly, how rain days work, and how long the price holds. Turn it into an invoice when you start.

Pricing tips for lawn care businesses

Work out your prices with the markup calculator, labor cost calculator and hourly rate calculator.

Quote per visit, show the season

A per-visit price is easy to compare; the season total shows the value of a full contract.

Charge for the first cut

An overgrown first mow takes longer. Price it as a separate line instead of losing money on visit one.

Bundle the programs

Fertilizer and weed control as a 4-round program sells better than single treatments and fills your schedule.

Questions lawn care businesses ask

How do you quote a lawn care job?

Look at the property, estimate how long one mow takes, and price per visit from your hourly target, usually by lot size. Add the frequency and season to get a total, then list cleanups and treatments as optional extras.

Is a lawn care quote the same as an estimate?

Usually yes. A quote is a fixed price for the service described; an estimate can change if the job turns out different, for example a much more overgrown lawn. Most lawn care companies send a quote with a per-visit price.

Should I quote lawn care per visit or per month?

Quote per visit so customers can compare, and show a monthly or season total. Many companies then bill monthly for the number of visits made.

What should a lawn care quote include?

Your details, the property and lot size, the per-visit price, frequency and season, seasonal extras, billing terms, rain-day policy and how long the price is valid.
